The Oryx’s African plains. This threatened species is the 15th at Bourbansais Zoo. Oryx are found from Namibia’s arid dunes to Kalahri’s dry savannas. It has large black lines on its sides, its legs and light head, as if it had make-up on. Female oryx’s internal temperature can reach 45°C. However, it has a thermoregulation system and make it capable to keep a facial temperature of 38°C. Instead of wasting its body’s water in transpiration and panting, its temperature rises of a few degrees above normal when it’s hot. At night, its body rejects the accumulated heat. It is the archetype of animal that adapted itself to the desert.
