Two unusual guided tours are available in Saint-Malo for groups or individuals, and one on the island of Cézembre for groups. The first and Cézembre tours plunge you into the heart of the Second World War, in 1944, while the second takes you back to the end of the 18th century, to the time of the last privateers of Saint-Malo.

Step back in time, five years after the start of the Second World War, in the company of Joseph Guthrie, a soldier of the 83rd American Infantry Division who took part in the battles to liberate Saint-Malo. You'll discover the city in the summer of 1944, in the aftermath of its destruction. You'll learn about the challenges and upheavals that the occupation brought to the lives of the inhabitants, and what the war meant for the American soldiers who came to liberate it. Through period photographs, moving stories and vivid testimonies, you'll gain an understanding of the consequences of the Second World War for the people of Saint-Malo.

Join your guide, an American soldier from the Second World War, on a walk through time on the island of Cézembre. Alongside him, you'll explore the landscapes shattered by the massive bombardment of this island, which was one of the most heavily bombed places per square metre in the world during the conflict. Discover some of the bunkers and cannons that took part in the fighting that raged on the mainland during the liberation of Saint-Malo, bombing Allied troops and civilians alike.
